BEGINNERS

Below are listed some of the most frequently asked questions, but if yours is not listed please do not hesitate to contact us.

"Where is my nearest club?"

We operate one club in Bicester but please please visit www.uktkd.co.uk,  Other clubs are available throughout the country.

"What will I be doing?"

Over the coming months you will be learning the basic blocks, punches and kicks of Tae Kwon-Do, together with self-defence. We will also be improving your fitness levels by various exercises including pad work.

"Do I need a suit?"

When you first start just wear loose clothing. You may purchase a suit at anytime, but you won’t need one until you decide to grade which will be your first formal occasion.

"Do I need insurance?"

Yes, soon after your first months training you will need to have your licence/insurance. This is your membership to the UKTKD as well as a policy against accidental injury and member to member liability.

"When can I grade?"

When you first start training you might only be thinking of getting fitter and learning a self-defence, but gradings are an integral part of

Tae Kwon-Do, a barometer of measuring ones skill. Each time you pass a grading it enables you to learn a new set of skills, therefore a student will never tire of Tae Kwon-Do.

“I think I’m too unfit?”

That’s all the more reason to join. Your fitness level will be built up gradually and depending on age and ability you’ll be surprised how much fitter you feel after just one month.

“Am I too old to start?”

You’re never too old to start Tae Kwon-Do. We have experience of teaching all age groups, from 5 years to 60+.

“I think I’m too shy?”

Our classes build confidence. They are structured so that no one feels embarrassed or incapable.

“Can I come on my own?”

Of course you can, many people start Tae Kwon-Do not only to learn a Self-Defence but to make new friends. We are not only a Martial Art Club, we hold many social events and fund raising events throughout the year.

“We’d like to come as a family, but are worried about the cost?”

We do special discounted rates for families.

“Is private tuition available?”

Yes, we can arrange to tutor you privately if required.

EXPERIENCED

We have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions from Experienced Students, whether they are experienced in Tae Kwon-Do or other Martial Arts.

If yours is not listed please do not hesitate to contact us.

"I've practised Tae Kwon-Do before, will I be able to carry on from my old belt?"

If you have practiced ITF style Tae Kwon-Do before (this would include patterns like Chon-Ji, Dan-Gun etc...) you may be able to carry on from your existing belt.

Your new instructor will be able to assess you, and advise you on the best way to continue your training.

“I've done Martial Arts before, do I have to start at beginner level?”

All Martial Arts have different syllabuses, though many of the movements are similar.

Having done a Martial Art before will be a great advantage to your training in Tae Kwon-Do, but you will have to start from white belt and learn our syllabus.

“What will I be doing?”

Depending on how your instructor assesses your ability, you will be continuing your Tae Kwon-Do tuition and working towards your next belt.

“Do I need a suit?”

You will not need an official UK TKD uniform until your instructor has assessed you. Until such time you should train in casual clothes e.g.

T-Shirt, tracksuit etc... but not your old uniform from your old association, unless otherwise permitted by your new instructor.
